UNESCO team evaluates “ Bohol as Heritage Site” |
|
.ANY chances for Bohol to be declared a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) heritage site? Only the ambassadors form Brunei , Mexico , and Thailand along with three Philippine Commissioners who are here in the province can tell. Bohol 's enduring environment protection and conservation programs have caught the attention of heritage workers eager to pitch in their support for local conservation efforts. Ambassador Emaleen Abd, Brunei Rahman Teo, Mexican Erendira Araceli Paz Campos, and Thai Asha Dvitiyananda with Commissioner Carmen Padilla, Teresita Villaruz, and the Boholano Cesar Montano of the UNESCO will evaluate Bohol heritage sites and weigh its chances. Rating high on their evaluation checklist are tourist spots and heritage sites in the province. Included are centuries old churches, watchtowers, old houses, the Loboc River experience, Manmade forest, Chocolate Hills geological monument in Carmen, Sagbayan, and Batuan and still other places. The UNESCO group stays until the March 12. Once they see Bohol as a potential heritage conservation site, they would nominate Bohol for UNESCO protection. (jlc/PGMA) |
