Chatto bats for entrepreneurship among civil servants

 

Assuring regular income flow for government employees after retiring from service, First District Congressman Edgar M. Chatto advocated for the approval of the bill which he co-authored that will continue to provide for the basic needs of government retirees and their families.

Chatto explained that “upon its enactment, House Bill No. 5468 entitled: An Act to Develop Entrepreneurship among Government Employees for an innovation inspired corps of Civil Servants and a productive Post-service Citizenry, will mandate all government agencies to establish cooperatives and savings and loan associations to retain the membership of the present employees even after their services in the government.” Cong. Chatto stressed that “under the proposed bill, government employees' cooperatives will be given preferential right6s to operate revenue-generating activities in government-owned facilities, provided that this will not interfere with their regular duties and responsibilities.”

To finance the operation and management of this program, Chatto said that “government financial institutions (GFIs) will be mandated to extend financial support for this project. The employees will likewise be trained to manage these establishments by experts to ensure that resources will be utilized properly whether in-service pr post-service. The program will also be monitored by the Coordinating Council of Government Employees' Entrepreneurship Development Program, which will be organized for the purpose.”
