Inabanga implements market denial of illegally caught fish

STILL fishing using dynamite? Think again before blasting. Part of the Coastal Resource Management (CRM) initiative of Inabanga is market denial to discourage fishermen using illegal methods from carrying on with their trade. Blast fishing is lucrative, but because it is destructive, Mayor Jose Jono Jumamoy instructed the local police (PNP), the municipal agriculture officer (MAO), the municipal environment and natural resources officer (MENRO) and the municipal coastal law enforcement team (MCLET) to check for blasted fish at the Inabanga market. This means blasted fish – as well as other forms of marine life – found in the market shall be confiscated from the vendors as part of the town's intensified Coastal Law Enforcement (CLE) activities. Aside from blasted fish, the Inabanga Coastal Resource Management Code declares illegal the catching of spawning crabs, danggit, tamban/tuloy, shrimps, grouper (lapu-lapu), bugo, samulok and timbongan. These may also be caught using bungsod, likom, sud-sud and panggal.
