Some politicians make promises they cannot keep. Maybe they believe in the notion that politicians' promises are made to be broken. But not former Surigao congressman Prospero “Butch” Pichay. The other day, the defeated senatorial candidate flew into town to attend the launching of his speech lab project at the Central Visayan State College of Science and Technology (CVSCAFT), Bilar Campus. The fully-digitalized speech lab was funded by a budget he inserted in the outlay of the Department of Transportation & Communication (DOTC) when he was still a congressman. In the Visayas, similar projects were introduced in Cebu , Samar , and Negros Occidental. Costing P2.5 million, Pichay believes that the project is a good investment for the students' future.
He said since Bohol is a prime tourist destination, it helps that students will be trained by the latest advances in digital technology. The students trained under the digital speech laboratory are also potential skilled workers who may fare well in the highly competitive job market abroad. The former Surigao lawmaker said in this age of call centers, business process outsourcing and medical and legal transcriptions, being educated in digital technology is an advantage. At the same time, Pichay took time out from his hectic schedule to thank his supporters in Bohol for placing him number two in the last senatorial elections. Although he did not fare well in the national standing, his ranking was already considered good enough let alone to a candidate who decided to run for a senatorial position at the 11th hour. Pichay said he decided to run just when the campaign was about to start. |
