PANGLAO - Governor Erico Aumentado last week directed the office of the provincial environmental office (PENRO) to reopen a barangay road allegedly closed by former mayor Doloriech Dumaluan of this town.
The recipient of the order was PENRO Eduardo Inting.
The governor's order to Ingking was in response to the request of Panglao Mayor Benedicto Alcala after his office received several complaints from residents in the Bolod area who were affected by the road closure. The residents mostly fishermen complained to Mayor Alcala that their ingress and egress to the beach were greatly hampered with the closure of the barangay road. The mayor said with the closure, residents in the area were forced to look for other ways in going to the beach. The former mayor reportedly closed the barangay road claiming that this portion of the road is his property. The road leads to the former mayor's Dumaluan Beach Resort. In asking for the governor's intervention, Mayor Alcala sought the relocation of the barangay road to ascertain the technical description which would be the basis of the municipality's plan to further improve and develop the said road. The barangay road development is in line with the town's beautification program for roads leading to tourism sites.
