The preliminary investigation on the illegal possession charge against the men of former Panglao Mayor Doloreich Dumaluan has been reset to Oct. 16. This was revealed by Insp. Ruben Quizon, Panglao PNP station chief in an interview with Station DyTR. The preliminary investigation was initially set last Oct. 11 but it was rescheduled since the results of the examination conducted by the PNP crime lab have not been signed yet. It will be recalled that charges of illegal possession of firearms were filed against three men working for the controversial former Panglao mayor arising from an incident that took place in Sitio Sapa, Barangay Bolod. The suspects were identified as Gregorio Defeles, 45, a native of Bil-isan, Panglao, Ramon Lorete, 38, a resident of Barangay Libaong, Panglao, and one Socrates Butil, 27, a native of Poblacion, Alicia town.
They were arrested by elements of the Panglao PNP who responded to the complaint made by residents of Barangay Bolod on Sept. 27. A day earlier, fearful residents had alerted the police after they heard the sound of gunshots in the area. The policemen arrested Defeles, Lorete and Butil who were caught in the possession of the firearms. Defeles was holding an AK-47 rifle that turned out to be licensed in the name of Dumaluan. Lorete and Butil also yielded a shotgun and two live bullets. The case was filed against the suspects last Sept. 28 before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor. They were granted temporary liberty after posting bail in the amount of P80,000 each. |
