Envoy, guests donate P400k to Loboc Children's Choir, band

THRILLED no end by the concert Friday of the Loboc Children's Choir, Ambassador Carlos Chan, the special envoy to China designated by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, gave financial assistance anew to the children and other performers during the mini concert at the newly inaugurated Loboc Children's Theater in Barangay Jimilian. Chan who has sponsored trips to China , Singapore and Hongkong, among others, for the choir members and other local officials as well as arranged the signing of a sisterhood agreement between Jiangxi and Bohol provinces gave P200,000 to the Loboc Children's choir. His guests comprised of investors from Wenzhou and Shanghai followed suit with P100,000. Chan also gave another P100,000 for the Loboc Youth Band most of whose members are “graduates” of the Loboc Children's Choir.

Chan visited Bohol anew on August 23 and 24, showing around his guests to trigger their interest to locate in Bohol , and to inaugurate the Loboc Children's Theater together with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the head of the Wenzhou and Shanghai delegation, Gov. Erico B. Aumentado, Loboc Mayor Leon Calipusan and Adam Relson Jala. To note, Chan had donated P8 million to build the theater and equip it with state-of-the art sound and lighting system. Aside from his P200,000 this time, he also donated P100,000 to the Loboc Youth Band even as his guests chipped in to give an aggregate P100,000 for the choir.. The band, under the tutelage of Rene Balbin, played themes from James Bond movies and other lively numbers. Another youth group sang a capella while the choir included in the evening's repertoire the Chinese song Molihua that drew cheers from the investors. At a signal from Chan, they stood and sang along with the children that tickled the atmosphere with excitement.

Earlier, Calipusan hosted dinner for Chan and party, Aumentado and other guests at the Loboc jumbo bridge that a Public Works and Highways official once described as “a monument to stupidity.” Calipusan finally found a way to utilize the bridge – a venue for dinner and entertainment under a rising moon. While the guests got food from the buffet tables, Lobocanons and the Chinese took turns in providing entertainment – from serenades to folk songs, to dances including the tinikling that a female Chinese delegate tried to learn – without her feet being caught by the bamboo poles. The river looked enchanted – with the glow of lights along the banks that Chan also donated, but which President Arroyo did not experience because she had left back for Manila where she had a late lunch. That morning, after inaugurating the children's theater and watching the Loboc Children's Choir perform a teaser of that night's concert, the President took an unscheduled cruise on one of the floating restaurants with Aumentado, Chan's party and other guests that gave the Presidential Security Group (PSG) and other units tasked to secure her a nightmare. No untoward incident happened.
