The stretch of years of celebrating the first International Treaty of Friendship dubbed as “Sandugo” will again brighten up the main thoroughfares of Tagbilaran City with the traditional streetdancing challenge to rouse Boholanos' Sunday morning today. Floats in festive colors, and artistic choreographs of streetdances snaking the thoroughfares to the final showdown at the Oval of the CPG Sports Complex highlight today's celebration of 153 rd Bohol Foundation Day. Among the establishments who confirmed to set-up floats are Island City Mall, Bohol Quality Mall, L. Lhuillier Pawnshop, Social Security System-Tagbilaran and Bohol Association of Metro Manila, Inc. (BAMMI) and Bohol Association of Hotels Resorts and Restaurants (BAHRR). Then, just like last year, a theatrical reenactment of the Blood Compact dubbed “Sandugo Oracles” will follow the field performance at the CPG Sports Complex Oval. Last year's debut performance earned public recognition which prompted the organizers to do it again this year, as directed and choreographed by highly acclaimed local artist, Lutgardo Labad. Anchored on the theme “Pakigsadurot sa Kinaiyang Bol-anon”, this year's edition streetdancing challenge focuses on the participation of the local community.
Jump-off time is at 9:30 a.m.
Participants include delegates from municipal government units, socio-civic organizations, learning institutions, business establishments and families or clans in a non-contest setting. Participating contingents and floats will assemble at Janseen Heights Corner J.A. Clarin Street, and will proceed to CPG Avenue-Tamblot-Torralba stretch. They will pass through the back gate of the CPG Sports complex where they will have the field performance at the Oval. A brief program will serve as refresher prior to the showdown proper. At stake are special Awards such as Best in Choreography, Most Creative/Unique Group, Best in Production Design, Best in Costume, Most Authentic Group, Best in Music, Best in Instrumentation, among others.
The streetdancing participants include the LGUs of Baclayon and Tubigon, city elementary schools in Bool, Booy Main, Booy South, Cabawan, City East, Cogon Main, Dampas, Dao, Eastern Cogon, Holy Name University, Manga, Mansasa, San Isidro, St. Therese, CIty Central School, Taloto, Tiptip, and Ubujan; and city secondary schools: Bohol Wisdom, Coon Night, DR. Cecilio Putong, Holy Infant Academy, Holy Name University-HS, Mansasa High, Manga, San Isidro, and Tagbilaran City Science High.
The idea of involving the city schools started last year thru the efforts of City Division Schools Superintendent Dr. Elpidio Jala in coordination with Carmen Gatal and Joseph Barrete. A 10-minute pyrotechnic display will follow, courtesy of Chowking which is one of the major sponsors. The “Battle of the Bands” grand finals, with a renown band from Manila as guest performer will clinch festivities. At the helm of the preparation is City Mayor Dan Neri Lim, BSFI chairman, and Loreto Palapos, the executive director. Other major sponsors are San Miguel Beer Corporation, Pepsi-Cola and Nature's Spring.
