Inabanga LGU outstanding in nutrition programs

 

Working efficiently toward achieving “Eradication of Extreme Hunger and Poverty” as one of the core objectives of the Millennium Development Goal, teamInabanga is right on its target by showcasing outstanding performance in nutrition management programs. The utmost dedication and unwavering commitment of the Local Government Unit of Inabanga led by Mayor Josephine Socorro C. Jumamoy has been very instrumental in attaining this empowering people coupled with a firm and dedicated governance, it translates to a mission of alleviating poverty of the marginalized sector, promoting people empowerment and protection of the environment.

The Municipal Nutrition Committee (MNC) chaired by the dynamic lady Mayor, guided with such principles, pursued with strong determination its goal of improving the quality of life of the Inabangnons through ensuring food security, developing sustainable food systems that will provide food for the people, preserve the environment and are resilient to the changing climate, establishing home, community and school vegetable gardens, reducing incidence of illnesses, income while creating decent employment. The collective effort and sustained hardwok of the members of the committee led to the significant success in reducing malnutrition level in all its 50 barangays.

Significant programs such as the implementation of the Food and Nutrition Action Plan which was supported by the Sangguniang Bayan and the 2005-born program Inabanga Nagka-isa, Kilos Laban sa Malnutrisyon (INA-KASAMA), an integrated approach to reduce malnutrition through enhanced delivery of health and nutrition services to the needy families were sustained. The implementation of the 100 percent utilization of iodized salt was sustained among households, food establishments and sari-sari or variety stores, the Sangkap Pinoy Seal Program, Well Baby Contest, Nutri Quiz for all school levels, Poster Making Contest for all school levels and out of school youths, Fun Run, various sports activities, Orally Fit and the Mass Feeding programs were also intensified and both were contributing well to the health of the constituents.

The continuous and intensified promotion of correct nutrition and health practices was given impetus by continued the Pabasa sa Nutrisyon in the barangays where parents with malnourished children were growth. Pre- marriage counselling was likewise strengthened to prepare parents on their important role in achieving a healthy family. Another added strategy was the Breastfeeding Support Group, a team in every barangay which will give assistance to the lactating mothers. Food production in the municipality was intensified to ensure household food security. The coverage of home, school and community gardens planted with nutritious fruits and vegetables was continuously expanded and modified to reach all families with malnourished children in all schools and barangays of Inabanga.

The tilapia raising in the uphill barangays and the livestock culture programs in the coastal barangays blended well with the demands of the people living in it. In its pursuit of healthy and quality life for all Inabangnons, teamInabanga have been constantly recognized for its exceptional nutrition programs. Among these prestigious recognitions were the Provincial Nutrition Awardee (2000, 2001, 2011), Regional Crown Awardee (2003, 2004, 2005), National Nutrition Honor Awardee - Hall of Fame (2006) and the National Nutrition Honor Maintenance Awardee (consistently from 2007 to 2013). These awards are made possible through the unified efforts and continuous support of teamInabanga, the Municipal Nutrition Council (MNC), counterparts in the barangay nutrition committee, partners in the non-government organization and the business sector.
