EBOLA

The World Health Organization warned that the West Africa Ebola epidemic was escalating out of control and could spread to other countries. WHO said the number of cases from Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone now reached 1,711 with a death toll of 932. The weak health systems in these countries had contributed to the calamity leaving bodies of victims to decay in the streets or in their homes and no one have gone to bury them. Currently there is no registered medicine or vaccine against the virus, but there are several experimental options under development like the ZMapp. But doctors say it's too early to tell whether it is effective and it is of very limited supply. Dr. Tom Frieden, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said."This is the biggest and most complex Ebola outbreak in history." He said, “Putting an end to the Ebola outbreak will take many months, and it won't be easy, but Ebola can be stopped, we know what needs to be done." Ebola virus disease (EVD), formerly known as Ebola hemorrhagic fever is a severe, often fatal illness in humans up to 90%.

The virus is transmitted to people from wild animals and spreads in the human population through human-to-human transmission. The Ebola virus can be spread though mucus, semen, saliva, sweat, vomit, stool or blood. Symptoms of Ebola include fever, headache, joint and muscle aches, weakness, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain, lack of appetite and in some cases bleeding. European and Asian countries are on the alert with fears that it could spread to other continents through air travel. The EU countries and Australia said they are well prepared. recautions are, to wash hands frequently, avoid direct contact with blood, secretions or other body fluids of infected living or dead persons or animals, avoid participating in burial ceremonies of dead victims, avoid contact with wild animals, including bats, monkeys, apes, chimpanzee and gorillas, whether alive or dead, including their raw or undercooked meat. Let's just hope that with every disaster that ever occurred to any place at a time, there is always an end and a way out of it.
