Boholana lawyer promoted as jr partner in topnotch law firm

 

Lawyer Mercedes Fama S. Baluyothas been promoted as a Junior Partner at the Makati-based Castillo Laman Tan Pantaleon & San Jose law firm (CLTPSJ), a multi-awarded full-service law firm in the country. The firm, established on January 2, 1981, has more than 50 lawyers who counsel both local and international clients in all aspects of Philippine laws. CLTPSJ was cited by the London-based International Corporate Lawyer as one of only two favored law firms in the Philippines and was honored as the “Regional Law Firm” by the Asia Law and Practice, Ltd. In 2014, CLTPSJ was awarded Patent Firm of the Year Philippines and IP Litigation Firm of the Year Philippines.

Atty. Baluyot, who practices labor and litigation law, was a consistent honor student at the Bohol Wisdom School until she left to continue her studies in Manila. After completing her high school studies with honors from the St. Paul University in Quezon City, she entered the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City where she graduated with a BA in English Studies: Language, cum laude, in 2000. She was then admitted to the College of Law in the same University where she graduated in 2004. She was thereafter admitted to the Philippine bar the following year. In 2008, Atty. Baluyot received her Master of Laws in International and Comparative Law from the National University of Singapore, consistently ranked as one of the world's top 25 law schools and widely regarded as Asia's leading law school. She returned to CLTPSJ in 2009.

In 2013, Atty. Baluyot was admitted as a regular member and trained arbitrator of the Philippine Dispute Resolution Center, Inc. In June 2014, she was selected to the Philippine delegation for the Young Lawyers Programme at the International Bar Association (IBA) Annual Conference in Tokyo, Japan from October 19 to 24, 2014. The IBA was established in 1947 and is the world's leading organization of international legal practitioners, bar associations, and law societies. Atty. Baluyot is a third-generation product of the University of the Philippines after her father, the late Atty. Manuel M. Baluyot, and her paternal grandfather, Mr. AmbrosioBaluyot, who belonged to the first batch of graduates of the University of the Philippines - College of Agriculture and Forestry in Los Baños, Laguna. Atty. Baluyot is the youngest daughter of Philippine Gift of Life Foundation President/CEO and Consultant on the Provincial Government's Medical & Surgical Missions, Mrs. Fancy S. Baluyot, RN and the late Atty. Baluyot. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, going to the beach, and travelling.Her siblings are Judy, Al, Jojo and Cates – all nurses; Kazan (Internal Medicine / Cardiologist) and Mary Ann (Medical Pediatrician).
