How time flies, before you know it, it's 28 yrs hence

How time flies? That exactly is the usual repartee when describing an occasion that expands all of 28 years. Twenty eight years ago, July 13, 1986, to be exact, we gave birth to a newspaper, nobody ever thought that it will survive this long. At that time that it first saw the light of day, not a few skeptics dismissed the ambitious venture of putting up a newspaper as unthinkable. What else did one describe how the Bohol Sunday Post come to be? Even now, not a few souls remain unconvinced that the paper is here to stay. Yes, at 28 years, anything can happen. Well, if it's God's will, that it's all over but the fold up, then who I am to disagree. But why put a negative spin to an institution that has withstood the vagaries of time. In fact, if only we can predict what lies ahead, then how we wish that it will live forever.

Since its formative years, the Bohol Sunday Post has undergone all sorts of challenges. Some of our colleagues in media credited it to our intestinal fortitude that spelled the difference between survival and calling it quits. Anybody made of lesser stuff should have thrown in the towel, but not this BGlante whose gut feel is likened to that of a burglar. While the paper was trying to find its range, it was about this time that we almost rose our arms in surrender. But as they say, no retreat no surrender. True, in the interim that we tiptoed to keep our nose above water, we were confronted with the reality whether to swim or sink. Swim we did to preserve a legacy that motivated us why we chose to put up a newspaper to an enterprise where “angels fear to thread”.

We know of newspaper ventures in the past that fell by the wayside. The history of Bohol journalism is littered with the carcasses of those who failed to make it. As we celebrate our 28th year next week, did we ever imagine that it can be done? Well, if our faith in the Lord Almighty remains unwavering, no amount of problem that comes along the way, that cannot be conquered. Yes, the Lord is with us all through the years that we've been threatened with closure. Our mantra then was that if God was with us, who can be against us.
