1 of remaining old-timers in city passes away; 93

One of the remaining old-timers and a survivor of the charm of old Tagbilaran died June 16 at his residence in Sto. Nino Street, Dao District, this city. He was 93 years old. Known as a cocker- gentleman in his lifetime until old age caught up with him, Segundo Soriano Lim, was a known businessman in this city. He later became a city councilor when Tagbilaran was chartered as a city in 1966. He built the Tagbilaran Cockpit Arena to dramatize his love affair with fighting cocks.

Lim was married to the former Gloria Neri of Ozamiz City who in the 90's became the city vice mayor. The Lim couple are blessed with four children: Dr Abe Lim, now practicing as a physician in the US; lawyer Dan Neri Lim, three-term mayor of Tagbilaran; Roy “RL” Lim; and Geesnell Yap, owner of Bohol Tropics Resort.

Maybe unknown to many new generation Tagbilaranons, the late Segundo Lim was one of the descendants of Lim Cua, the richest Boholano-Chinese from China in the 1920's. Other than his four children, the grand patriarch of the Lim family is also survived by his grandchildren: Honey Ges, Abe Ian, Seg Basil, Miles, Gail, Seg Charlie Anton, JJ and City Mayor Baba Yap. The late businessman has two surviving sisters, Paz and Dolores. The remains of the late Seg Lim are now lying in estate at his Dao residence. It will be buried after noon time today at the Victoria Memorial Park. Before the burial services, a high noon mass will be held at the St. Joseph Cathedral.
