THE BIG THREE

Talking about the big three, easy reference can be made to the National Basketball Association (NBA) where the sports analysts in TNT and NBA premium TV coined such word for the three leading players in every NBA team. For instance, the big three for the Miami Heat which scorched the Indiana Pacers yesterday morning, 117-92, to capture the Easter Conference Championship are Lebron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh. The anti-heaters call them as the monkeys and dinosaurs. Unfortunately, our prediction that both the East and West conference finals will reach Game 7 did not come true because of such win in Game 6 yesterday right at the home court of the Miami Heat which defeated the Pacers for the third time in the Easter Conference thereby making the Heat vying for a three-peat in the NBA Finals.

The Miami Heat will now await the winner in the showdown between the San Antonio Spurs against the Oklahoma Thunders. The Spurs now lead the series, 3-2 but which could even reach Game 7 true to our prediction. The big three for the San Antonio Spurs are Tim Duncan, Mano Ginobili and Tony Parker. To the Thunder fans, the big three of the Spurs are senior citizens because most of them are already above 30 years old. Take note of the balding head of Ginobili, for example. For Oklahoma City, its big three include Kevin Durant, presently the league's most valuable player, Russel Westbrook and Serge Ibaka. The anti-OKC fans call them as the juvenile delinquents. They did not know what they are doing against the Spurs which apparently controlled their series.

When we also talk about the big three, we are reminded of the three streets in Tagbilaran City which badly needs immediate repair especially when the school-year is about to start next week. These are the streets from Manga to Tiptip, the street at the back of the governor's mansion and the upper B. Inting street in downtown Tagbilaran. The local media described Tagbilaran before the May 2013 local elections as a TBTK, meaning “Tagbilaran Buslot Tanang Kalsada”. The present city hall dispensation has announced in the Facebook of a proposed new city hall outlook which could compare it to the White House. Before we could proceed to repair and rehabilitate the Tagbilaran City Hall which already earned hundreds of favorable comments, could we see the repair of these streets first? We don't need the so-called “tapak-tapak” operation of Mayor Baba Yap. The public needs a complete rehabilitation on these city streets as enumerated above.

On the lighter note, there is a new place to mall and shop around days from now right in the heart of the city which was lorded over in the past by the big three, the Alturas Supermarket, the Bohol Quality (BQ) Mall and our own SM, Shoppers Mart. The new place to rendezvous is being called by a wag here as Tagbilaran's MOA, Mall of Alturas, liking it to the Mall of Asia in Manila. The new mall is very visible to the eyes of the public right in the place once occupied by the Tagbilaran's Friendly Bazaar. This is the expansion of the Alturas Supermarket facing the CPG Avenue this city and they call it as Alturas Mall, not the Mall of Alturas. This is the anti-dote to the other big three that comes also in our mind as we wrote this corner.

POSTSCRIPT: As already announced by the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) there will be a total blackout in the entire Bohol today starting at 7 o'clock in the morning until 5 o'clock in the afternoon. So? What are we waiting for? After attending the masses, expect the malls and the stores in downtown Tagbilaran City to be heavily crowded today. So do with the Panglao beaches including swimming pools. We could not imagine the number of those going to Bet n Choy in Catigbian nor even the Logarita Spring in Bilar. The boxing fans will be looking for the nearest available television set to watch the fight of Nonito Donaire against Simpiwe Vetyeka this morning…There's more when we come back.
