Gov. Edgar M.Chattohas flown to Singapore to join with hundreds of world leaders who have been invited to participate in the 5th World Cities Summit Forum slated on June 1-4, 2014 in Singapore. The Singaporean government,through Singapore ambassador to the Philippines Hirubalan V.P., conveyed the invitation to Chatto. The forum is one of the largest international gatherings of local government leaders including governors, mayors, legislators and government managers.
The World Cities Summit is the exclusive and premier platform for government leaders and industry experts to address liveable and sustainable city challenges, share integrated urban solutions and forge high-level partnerships. Themed "Liveable and Sustainable Cities - Common Challenges, Shared Solutions", the fifth edition of WCS will focus on the state of urban challenges today to identify principles of shared solutions applicable to cities. More than 1,500 stakeholders across government, industry, international organisations and academia, including over 110 mayors, will come together to address the world's most pressing urbanisation issues by discussing emerging trends, sharing best practices, and exploring cutting edge technologies and integrated urban solutions.
Local communities now face acute challenges in accommodating growing population while managing infrastructure constraints, social inequities,environmental deterioration and economic volatility according to Summit Organizers. In explaining his acceptance to the invitation, Chatto said that local government units need more integrated approaches to achieve more growth and sustainable development,especially with the growing interests in Bohol for investments in tourism, agri-business and information technology. The governor has thanked the Singaporean Ambassador for his trust and confidence on his leadership and his faith in Bohol's vast potentials as a contributor to regional, national and global growth. Meanwhile, on June 5, upon Chatto's return home, he will be conferred the Tourism Award by the Rotary Club of Manila at the New World Hotel in Makati, for his past and present contributions to the tourism industry in Bohol and in the country.
