PNP creates City Advisory Council; Marapao heads group

To help law enforcers in the fight against the rising criminality in the island province of Bohol, the Bohol Police Provincial Office (BPPO) has created another advisory council for the city, hoping the council members could provide an external perspective on how the police can succeed in their day-to-day operations. Upon orders of Bohol PNP Director Senior Superintendent Dennis Palo Agustin, Tagbilaran City Police Chief Superintendent JovitoAtanacio has called on “credible members of community” to band together as City Advisory Council (CAC), with lawyer Lord R. Marapao IV elected by council members as chairman and bank manager Rodney Lumuthang as vice-chairman. Marapao in his acceptance speech has vowed to support the projects and programs of the police so long as they are in accordance with law.

Earlier, BPPO had created the Provincial Advisory Council (PAC), with Bohol Sunday Post editor-in-chief Mike Ortega Ligalig elected as chairman, and former Region 7 National Police Commission Director lawyer Bernie Calibo sitting as vice-chairman. Members of PAC are former Governor and lawyer Victor De la Serna, former provincial administrator lawyer Antonio Amora Jr., former president of Bohol Chamber of Commerce and Industry lawyer Mans Tumanda, regional Commission on Elections officer lawyer VeronicoPetalcorin, engineers Arnold Labunog and PetroniloSarigumba, former college professor and broadcast journalist Ardy Ines Araneta, former city councilor Kit Oppus, Pastor RufinoFudalan, retired police inspector Alberto Pilayre, and business consultant Donald Sevilla. To be inducted as incoming PAC members are Capitol executive Ms. Liza M. Quirog and retired German military officer Holger Horn.

Meanwhile, CAC is composed of lawyer Handel Lagunay, bank manager DeoButawan, city government's human resources manager Matt Nemenzo, engineer and Bohol historian Jes Tirol, Pastor Nelson “Boy” Rio II, former barangay captain Faro Cabalit, veteran journalist Ric V. Obedencio and EliezerBorja. Agustin in his speech during the organizational meeting said that maintaining the peace and order of Bohol, globally known for its unique tourism attractions, is “a shared responsibility between the police, local government officials and the community.” The police chief noted that the alarming proliferation of illegal drugs, blamed for the rising crime incidents in the province, cannot be solved without the involvement of various sectors of the Boholano community.
