Mayor Baba: Yet so new, yet so popular

Yet so new, yet so popular, is the best description there is to a neophyte politician like City Mayor John Geesnell “BABA” Yap who got a high net satisfaction rating of +65, the Bohol Poll 2014 showed. According to the survey, standard net satisfaction ratings considers +50 to +69 as “very good” which means that a great majority (73%) were satisfied of his performance as mayor while quite a few (8%) said otherwise. Only in his first term, Mayor Yap was inspired by the trust and confidence that the Tagbilaranons has been showing him. The overwhelming support during the recently concluded SAULOG TAGBILARAN 2014 festivities was a concrete manifestation of the peoples' support. It should also be remembered that President Benigno S. Aquino III, during his speech at Bohol Island State University in Tagbilaran City for the FabLab launch last May 2, Bohol's first ever Fabrication Laboratory Shared Service Facility Project said, "In terms of diligence, it will be difficult to beat this group. If your leadership is this hardworking, I will not be surprised that a bright future awaits Boholanos. They are public servants who will not leave you in your hour of need."

With a very good rating, this was a quantum leap from the former city mayor Dan Neri Lim net satisfaction rating of -2 last April 2013.Also, the Tagbilaranons gave the city government a relatively high net satisfaction rating (satisfied minus dissatisfied) on the efforts in promoting investments at +47, protecting the environment at +45, providing livelihood and employment at +25, traffic management at +28, reducing graft and corruption at -1, ensuring adequate drinking water at + 66, and protecting life and property with (+31). It can be inferred from the figures above that Mayor Yap's rating was the highest in all the previous surveys that has been conducted in the specific services outlined in the HNU Bohol Poll. BOHOL POLL is an annual monitoring activity on the sentiments of the Boholanos on social, economic, political issues of local and national concern. The Bohol Poll is conducted in April of each year since 2000. The Center of Local Governance of the Holy Name University boasts of being the first locally-based institution capable of conducing local public opinion polling.
