“Bikini” fund-raising benefits Anda tarsiers

ANDA, Bohol – Engineer-turned-entrepreneur Jun Daniel and his JD Kaligayahan Foundation, Inc. has launched the “Bikini Babe 2014” held Friday (April 25, 2014) at his posh Anda De Boracay White Sand Beach Resort in this once sleepy town touted to be the next tourist haven and destination in this part of the province. Ms. Arne D. Bernal bested seven others who are equally young and talented women vying for the title during the spectacular pageantry before the screaming crowd of customers both locals and foreigners. Bernal, who received cash and sash, garnered most of the major awards. Each hopeful vowed to help pursue social change and environmental protection and conservation of the town's assets. Daniel said that this is no ordinary pageantry since he also launched what he described as campaign for social awareness and eventually environmental conservation efforts for both the townsfolk and visitors to address and enjoy.

He stressed that the show is his commitment to also raise funds from the proceeds of the pageant for the barrio-folks of Barangay Lundag in this town to practice self-reliant and empowered people's organization. Daniel said that unknown to many Boholanos this town is the home or habitat of the Tarsier especially found in the wilderness of Barangay Lundag. Barangay chairman Absalon Deloy confirmed this finding (Tarsier) in an exclusive interview. He said there could more than a hundred or even hundreds of the smallest primate roaming around. Both Daniel and Deloy, who are considered as environment activists, agreed to pour their limited resources to protect this primate for, not only visitors to see and enjoy but for the community of this town. And they both wanted to establish a tarsier sanctuary like the one in Corella town, hoping to see one day that this town could be the next Tarsier sanctuary in Bohol.

This Barangay (Lundag) is also blessed with natural wonders in caves that recently being visited. Deloy said that some caves here are still untouched by civilization. The plan for protection and conservation of this towns natural beauty is to apparently prevent any untoward incident of mineral theft. It will be recalled that the town's white powdery sand resources had been hauled sometime in 1990s to spruce up Mactan's rugged rocky beaches. With this noble vision and mission in sight, Daniel wanted to contribute to Mayor Metodio “Dodong” Amper's thrusts of transforming this town into the next tourist destination in Bohol. (RVO)
