VINDICATION VS. REDEMPTION

Last Thursday afternoon, we dropped by at a local grocery for a minute shopping on some items. Before we brought the items to the cashier, we passed by the stall on pastries and bread and took two (2) packs of our favorite “siopao” in cubes and paid a hundred for it. The following morning, we opened it and tried to pair the cubes with our cereal. OMG, the cube “siopao” were already in the state of decomposition as it had already molds. This is not the first time that we bought something in that store which is already beyond the period of expiration. You know the name of this store. Its name is synonymous in selling expired grocery items. The last time that we mentioned the name of that store in our column in the other newspaper before earned us the ire of the store manager who even directed the store's employees not to vote for us in the 2010 elections.

A neighbor put up last Wednesday a wage for P2,000 for the Pacquiao-Bradley 2 fight today. Not even a boxing analyst, but our neighbor was firm that Manny Pacquiao is already aging and he will surely suffer from the attacks of Timothy Bradley today. Less than five months ago, we watched the Pacquiao fight against Brandon Rios at the then power-generated Dao Diamond's Sta. Fe Hall brought about by the Yolanda brownouts here. His victory against Rios last Nov. 23 was more of a redemption. This morning, Pacquiao would be fighting for the first time in the US since 2012 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada for his vindication out of that dubious fight that resulted in a questionable win of Bradley.

Looking at this WBO welterweight fight, the undefeated two-division world champion “Desert Storm” Bradley will defend his crown against Pacquiao. It would be a make or break for the Pacman. If he loses to Bradley this morning, that would be all for his boxing career. On the other hand, his victory will ascend him back to where he previously sits in the boxing world. Looking at the P2,000 bet put up by our neighbor, we do have second thoughts whether to take it or not. But out of patriotism, our support will be of course for Pacquiao and we might as well take that bet. Instead of going to the Sta. Fe Hall of Dao Diamond, as there is no more brownouts anyway, or to the P888-buffet at the Southpalms Resort, we want to see the fight right at our sala and paid P750 pay-per-view and readied our buffet at our house. So come on, we eat that P2,000 bet.

We mentioned about brownouts, during the Pacquiao-Rios fight last November, the power already returned. Last Friday night, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) reported that all the power-generating units in Central Visayas are already restored. This just brought to our mind the controversy behind the power units at the Bohol Diesel Power Plant (BDPP)? You see, we cannot just let that situation go unnoticed as we spent part of our money in getting hotel rooms as we had a power blackout last November. Did we actually pay the Bohol Light Co. with the power being generated by the BDPP last November? BDPP used bunker fuel and its generation cost is almost two times the power generation coming from the Tongonan Geothermal Plant in Leyte. Please check your electric bills ASAP if indeed we paid for that BDPP power generation at the height of the Yolanda brownouts here.

POSTSCRIPT: Good luck to Mayor Herbert Bautista of Quezon City. His relationship with the presidential sister Kris Aquino will be co-terminus with the presidency of Pres. Pnoy. Why? Your answer is as good as mine… Speaking of Pres. Pnoy, his cabinet member, Sec. Sonny Coloma does not deserve a minute longer in Malacanang. His irresponsible statement pertaining to the transportation system in Manila generated very bad comments even in the social media. Coloma said sorry but the damage has been done…There's more when we return.
