Mayors richer by P85K after LMP meeting?

Unknown to many, some mayors in Bohol came home the other week at least P85K richer after a senator and other political bigwigs gifted them with cold cash. Sources who were privy to the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) national convention in Manila the other week have confirmed that several Liberal Party (LP) mayors in Bohol had indeed received P50,000 cash from Senator Alan Peter Cayetano. Cayetano is reportedly eyeing the presidency in the 2016, and has been favored heavily by the business elite in Manila. According to sources, Cayetano was meeting with LP Bohol stalwarts and was soliciting their opinions regarding his plan to seek the highest position in the land. Later in the meeting, Cayetano reportedly handed out P50,000 to the mayors but without any string attached.

After receiving P50,000 from Cayetano, several mayors from Bohol also received P15,000 cash gift from Vice-President Jejomar Binay, during a separate meeting. But mayors who were texted by the Post have refused to comment on this issue. Binay has been groomed to be the opposition's presidential contender in the 2016 national elections. He is likely to wage political war against administration's bet, DILG Sec. Mar Roxas. Binay met up with Bohol mayors to test his political charm whether it was timely for him to run as president in 2016. In another meeting with mayors, former Carmen Mayor Che Torribio delos Reyes reportedly gave P15,000 for Bohol mayors who appeared neutral during the 2013 Bohol elections. Delos Reyes has been reported of mulling a comeback in the gubernatorial race in 2016. She lost to Gov. Edgar Chatto during her first attempt to unseat the incumbent. On top of all the personal donations, Rep. Arthur Yap of the third district was also acting generous to the mayors during the LMP national convention. Yap reportedly gave out P5,000 to all mayors. The lawmaker has been known to have supported all mayoral candidates in a town regardless of their winnability.
