5 HNU grads make it to Bar exams; 7 from other schools

Five graduates of the Holy Name University College of law made it to the 2013 Bar exams leading the pack of successful examinees with seven others joining the roll of new Boholano lawyers. The list of new lawyers was released by the Supreme Court on March 18. There were 5,292 barristers, of which only 1,174 have hurdled one of the world's most difficult examinations. In Bohol, HNU made a record as the only law school in Bohol which has produced new lawyers from last year's bar exams. The new HNU lawyers are Joycie Agocoy, Reagan Bolando, Jesrel Bolanio, Waynie Mae Balicoco, and Hannahbee Grace Bajao. Other successful Boholano barristers are Efren Dominique M. Chatto II, Karla Ayco, Karina Kirstie Paola, and Marie Nickie H. Bolos from the University of the Philippines (UP).

Getafe municipal accountant Jairus T. Socias, of the University of San Jose Recoletos; Val Christian T. Sultan from Ateneo de Manila University; and Antonio Marlon Eric I. Dejaresco from Siliman University are among the new Boholano lawyers. HNU College of Law Dean Tomas Abapo Jr. has attributed the success to the institution's efficient review system. Abapo said they simulated the bar by giving mock bar exams and instilled study discipline and conducted oral discussions on case law. The result from the October 2013 bar released last Tuesday showed a 22.18 percent passing rate. The new Boholano lawyers from HNU will join the oath-taking ceremony at the Philippine Convention Center on April 28. UP is back again on top since 2005 when five in the Top 10 and in fact, claiming the top two spots-Nelson Pangan, 85.8%, and Mark Xavier D. Oyales, 85.45%. The rest in the top 10 are Dianna Louise Wilwayco of Ateneo de Manila-85.45%. Rudy Ortes of University of Batangas-84.2%, Eden Catherine Mopia of UP-84.05%, Tercel Maria Mercado-Gephart of the University of San Carlos-83.9%, Manuel Sarausad of the University of Cebu-83.8%, Katrine Suyat of San Beda College Manila-83.75%, Michael Tiu Jr. of University of the Philippines-83.70%, Marjorie Ivory Fulgueras of Ateneo de Manila-83.65%, Cyril Arnesto of UP-83.60%.
