The Loon District Hospital acquired a delivery room which can also function as an emergency operating room as well as a nursery for babies. The Shelter Company through its CEO Samuel Vedanaigam turned over the 9x6m, 2.4m tall tubelar structure to Gov. Edgar Chatto on Saturday. Patented worldwide, the tubelar structure which was built in 6 hours was shipped all the way from Singapore, where it is made by The Shelter Company. A first in Singapore, a first venture in international humanitarian effort, the tubelar modular which will serve as delivery room cum emergency operating room and nursery for babies is attached to the OutPatient Department of the Cong. Natalio P. Castillo Memorial Hospital, the only building that remains usable after the earthquake.

Gov. Chatto thanked the Singapore donor team who themselves were involved in putting up the structure, saying the portion that The Shelter Company built is exactly what the hospital needs at this point. The team has been introduced to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) for a possible collaboration in the shelter component intervention of early recovery efforts in the province post-earthquake. Linked up through Atty. Jun Amora, the Singapore donor team is made up of Lee Kay Lian, an architect volunteer; Daniel Poh of City Care, Singapore; and Abdul Saleem, a technician of The Shelter Company. The Singapore Donor Team formally turned over the structure to Gov. Chatto who was joined by First Lady and Balilihan Vice Mayor Pureza Veloso-Chatto and Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Greg Sodusta. (Leah/EDCOM)
