DID THE UNITS REALLY CRANK OUT?

If you still read this column today, thank God and embrace your family. The doomsayers proclaimed all over in the internet particularly in the Facebook that the world is going to end yesterday. Almost all comments in the Facebook seemed so morbid that it also made us stop going over it. Their false prophecy was anchored in the presence of the comet, Ison, which left the Oort cloud, an outer edge of the solar system, where it has been for more than 4.5 million years. Every time that there is a comet, something very bad will happen, they said. Well if the earthquake and Yolanda are not yet that bad, then what it is? Time spent worrying issues like this is a time wasted. Just pray as nothing beats prayer.

We watched the Pacquiao-Rios fight last Sunday noon at the generator-powered Sta. Fe of Dao Diamond while waiting for the restoration of power within the next 48 hours. At the beginning of the fight, we were thinking that we could be watching the internment of Pacquiao's boxing career. His loss to Rios would definitely mark the demise of his being the “pambansang kamao”. But as the bell for the first round rung, we smelled that the fighting congressman is all set for his redemption by immediately controlling the fight versus Rios. And so he did until the 12th round.

Well, while he redeemed himself in boxing, Pacquiao did what politicians should not do. He deserted from the ruling party and joined Vice-Pres. Jejomar Binay's camp. Pacquiao did not even make the courtesy call to Malacanang when he came back from Macau, China. He does this as the boxer has his eyes seat to a higher post in 2016. The tax collection against him followed since then. If he is eyeing for the presidency or the vice-presidency, then we all know who the mastermind for the tax collection is. It's not BIR Commissioner Kim Henares. It is the one sitting in the cabinet who is casting his moist eye to be the heir-apparent of Pnoy in 2016. Even if he is running for a Senate seat, Pacquiao should know how people there are casting a killer eye on possible senatoriables. They want to neutralize those ambitioning to be in the Senate and they want to do it cleanly, you know that we meant.

Going back to restoring power in 48 hours while we watched the Pacquiao-Rios fight at the generator-powered Sta. Fe Hall of Dao Diamond, the power indeed returned as reports came in that the President would be coming several days later. Whatever happened to the power units at the Bohol Diesel Power Plant (BDPP)? We cannot just let that situation go unnoticed as we spent part of our money in getting hotel rooms as we had a power blackout the other week. Did the last operating BDPP unit really cranked out according to Engr. Pepito and Days Arcenal of the Bohol Light or was it all about money matters?

Ex-Gov. Victor de la Serna admitted that the high and mighty Dennis Villareal's Salcon also bought the BDPP being part of the package deal in acquiring the provincial electric and water systems here. In other words, Salcon owns the Bohol Light as well as the BDPP. This will explain why Engr. Pepito said his request for spare parts will have to pass through Makati City where Villareal's powerful chair is located. In other words, according to the grapevines, the generating units at the BDPP did not really cranked out. It was more of a question who pays the fuel being used by the BDPP in generating power for the entire province considering that it uses a bunker fuel which price per megawatt is more than double the power generated by the geothermal plant in Leyte.

POSTSCRIPT: Is former City Mayor Dan Lim on his way out of the political scene in Tagbilaran considering that most of his candidates for punong barangay in the city's 15 barangays lost in the polls last Monday? This was the question especially so when Lim's wife, Dr. Sharleen, lost in his own political bailiwick in Dao. But we heard the mayor's program last week pointing to the mother of the present city leadership as the one behind the loss of Dr. Sharleen. The administration counts on 10 punong barangays and is assured of a possible city Liga president in the city council. Lim has only five. There's more when we return.
