The matriarch of the First Consolidated Bank died at dawn Saturday at the Cebu Doctors Hospital in Cebu City after fighting a losing battle with a lingering illness. Paz Uy, 86, widow of the late businessman Alfonso Uy, was survived by seven children, namely Samuel, Joven, Susan, Eddie, Richard, Ava and Nelson. Her remains will lie in estate at the Uy ancestral house along CPG Avenue, this city. The late Paz Uy is also survived by brothers and sisters in Leyte, Davao and Cebu. She hailed from Daan Bantayan, Cebu. As widow of the late Alfonso Uy, Mrs. Uy saw how her husband nurtured the growth of FCB into one of the biggest private development banks in the country today. The late Uy is succeeded by one of his sons, Richard, who is now the chairman of the board of FCB.With 63 branches and 26 marketing offices nationwide, it was the late Uy patriarch who made the unprecedented consolidation of all rural banks in Bohol into one corporate banking entity.
Now, FCB, is practically a household name in the banking sector with its unparallel expansion of opening more branches throughout the country. In Palawan alone, FCB has five branches while in the last quarter of this year, FCB will open another three branches in Roxas City, Capiz; Lambunao Iloilo and in Masbate City. Established in 1982 as a private development bank, the continuous growth in numbers of branches and offices, ATMs and accredited merchants all over the country, gives FCB the opportunity to meet the growing needs of customers in micro, small and medium business markets in the community.
