Cong. Yap donates 500 shelters to constituents

Cong. Arthur Yap of the third district is donating 500 “coarse shelters” to as many constituents whose houses were completely destroyed. Coarse shelters are umbrella- like structures which can withstand even the strongest storms. Getting the funding requirement from his own pocket and donations from his friends, the third district solon said the donation was his own way of helping the victims of the October 15 killer quake. Although damage to property and lives in Yap’s district was minimal, the congressman extended his relief efforts even outside his turf. This give rise to the congressman’s initiative to launch a Facebook account known as “An Appeal to Rebuild Bohol”. In his appeal for donation to rebuild Bohol, Cong. Yap called on all concerned to support his initiative.

The full text of his appeal read, thus:

The Churches will be rebuilt.  The roads rendered passable.  Bridges will be repaired and ports re-opened.  The major infrastructure damages will be eventually be addressed.  But who will come to help the silent majority made up of farmers, itinerant farm workers, retirees, senior citizens and the simple folk of Bohol who sustained personal losses?  Who will financially aid families, whose life savings evaporated in a few violent minutes of frenzied shaking?  Bottles of water and food package distributions will not go on forever. When the aftershocks stop and the chance to re-build lives becomes possible, who will help buy a few bags of cement, some roofing materials and housing fixtures to repair the more than 10,000 homes lost and damaged in the earthquake?  More importantly, how do we aid people in getting small businesses like bake shops, internet cafes, barber and beauty shops, sari-sari stores, merchandising stores, tailorings, native cakes and sweets makers, BBQ stalls, eateries, market stall vending, food processors, and a hundred other small businesses, to flourish once again?  We need a fund that will go beyond distributing food and water packs.  We need to rebuild lives.  We cannot do so without repairing homes and restoring livelihoods.  Come join us.  Together, help us REBUILD BOHOL.

All donations may be coursed through:
