What’s in a name

Well, starting today, we will be firing from this new location in the writing field. To paraphrase the US music singer Jimmy Dean, if we can’t change the wind, we can always adjust our sails to always reach the destination. So, come on, let us give more fun and what have you in this corner.

* * * * *

Being a political animal, a lot may be expecting political undertones from us. But lo and behold, we shall do away with any elements of politics in this corner especially now that the honeymoon period is not yet over. If ever we go into the political configuration, both local and national, our intentions will always be a prime suspect. The most prudent part is therefore to shut off, at least for this honeymoon period.

* * * * *

In the first place, there a lot of things to write about without politics. We can start with the minions, the angry birds and reo if our readers would want to. However, next to politics, closest to our heart is of course the law. So from time to time, we would discuss about the latest jurisprudence that could affect our day to day lives. In here, we will follow the maxim “sic utere tuo ut alienum non laedas” – enjoy our rights but not to injure the rights of others.

* * * * *

BGLante would like this corner to be known as “Ang Dan Matuwid”. We profusely declined as we would be taking a presidential pun right from the very start. He also suggested to make this column as “Thy Will Be Done”. That could be attractive but it could make us vulnerable to being a heretic. We were thinking to call this as a “Done Deal” but on second thought, it will make this corner the object of an anti-graft mind. It is just okay to call this as a well done.

* * * * *

We just wanted to make this corner short and avoid any jumper in editing as much as possible to make it easier for our readers. But BGLante wanted me to hit the ground running from the very start and keep you at the edge of your seats. Well, we cannot argue with that but despite the fact that we have an armory of issues to unload here after having quite a period of hibernation, we still prefer to make this in a low toned opening, just like the soft opening of the 4 Stars Homes found in page one in this issue.

* * * * *

It’s just the warmth of being introduced in this new location that we would like to savor that’s why we are not in the very best position to unload our armory in this first salvo. While at the back of our mind, we have been haunted by a lot of things to write once we are given the opportunity to do so. But prudent dictates that there is no substitute to be on a low profile in the opening canto, a maxim true to the pugilists.

* * * * *

So, sit back, relax and enjoy, as you make this column a part, not only of your Sunday life, but every time you drag this paper in your living room, in your table and in whatever you are doing by just wanting to kill the time, you know what we mean by that. So we will start shooting from this corner when we return.
