TODAYS MILLENNIAL

According to research, children born since 1980, known as the millennial of today, are more alike than different. This generation of young people grew up connected across globe by the internet and social media, which produce a generation of shared experiences, values and attitudes around the world. They are alike from their social media habits, to their parents, to their confidence and expectations. When it comes to career issues, employers say “they haven’t even arrived at their new job and already they want to know where they’ll go next.” Some even provide them with “special training in problem solving because parents have always been the problem solvers.” A 2010 study showed that young people in China spent excessively more time in the virtual world for both work and play. Millennial in India, the US and China most likely consider access to state-of-the-art technology an importantl factor in choosing an employer.

Only less than average percent of millennial in India and China like to be “competitively or intellectually challenged” as their goal. Only a small proportion of Japanese students want to manage people or be entrepreneurial. Most European young people in France, Spain and Italy want an international career. Many millennial in different countries especially Americans desire jobs that has plenty of time for personal activities. This demand for work-life balance is more noticeable in Western countries in general. Asian millennial are different, they have an edge in surviving the demand of today’s workplaces. They maybe discontented with their jobs but Asian millennial doesn’t easily leave if their work-life balance isn’t to their liking.
