V-Mayor Jose Antonio Veloso, presiding officer of the Sangguniang Panglungsud, gave until next session day three favorite contractors of the previous administration of city mayor Dan Neri Lim to appear before the city law making body to shed light on-going road projects in this city. During Friday’s session, Engr. Franklin Olaer of Square Cube Construction, Engr. Wilson T. Go of Gowil Builders and Wilhemn T. Go of Helm Construction and Supplies were sent letters of invitation to enlighten the “august body on the status of road projects that are undergoing repairs, are either left unfinished or are in various stages of completion”. The contractors were directed to bring with them the contract of works and other government documents relevant to the projects. But of the three invited contractors, no one showed up in the SP session hall. According to Veloso, it was important for the contractors to enlighten the public of their on-going projects due to mounting complaints from motorists and the riding public regarding unfinished road projects.

In Friday’s session, only City Engineer Pianicita Castulo was present but the SP members were more interested to grill the three contractors of how far they can assure the riding public of the state of the city’s on-going road projects. The erring contractors are caught in a storm of public protest arising from roads being scraped of its asphalt cover and then abandoned the unfinished activity and start the same scraping works in another dilapidated city road. One object of protest is Tamblot St where the contractor has started uncovering its overlay closing the main artery to vehicle traffic. What aggravated the situation of unfinished road projects is the tendency of contractors to abandon what has been started because the same equipment and manpower were assigned to another project.
