Aleckoy: Hope for a forlorn PCL-Bohol

If we want to dissect the true condition of the current Philippine Councilors’ League (PCL)-Bohol, what we are about to see, or have already seen by keen observers, is an expansive barren land of inactivity, staleness, blandness. In three years that incumbent PCL-Bohol President Ramonito Torrefranca sits as ex-officio member of the Sanggunian Panlalawigan, sadly, he belongs to the committee of silence, with apparently no significant contribution to the discussion of the economic progress of Bohol. We don’t even know if he has done any good for the PCL image of Bohol. A quick review of three years of past issues of all Bohol newspapers reveals that the portrait of PCL-Bohol is virtually like a ghost town that is terribly devoid of life, hope, drama.

If there was something special done by PCL-Bohol during the last three years, it would have attracted a precious space in any editions of Bohol-based newspapers so the public may know that PCL-Bohol is still alive and kicking. Sadly, tragically, unfortunately, PCL-Bohol is dead. So why still glorify the dead? That’s why this very important arm of provincial governance needs an immediate injection of life so that it can become a living asset useful for the province’s march toward social progress. And what PCL-Bohol needs is a lawyer and philanthropist like City Councilor-elect Alexander “Aleckoy” Lim who for decades has been proven as a revolutionary, catalyst for many of Bohol’s historical turning-points. Should we also mention the fact that if Aleckoy were a country, he belongs to the so-called elite list of “nuclear-armed” nations whose fighting power is packed with weapons of mass destruction (WMD) that if provoked, his only promise of retaliation is something we all fear of: a mutually assured destruction (MAD)?

But Aleckoy’s massive arsenal of cold cash and well-entrenched political influence, or that of being “nuclear-armed,” do not make him an automatic candidate for PCL-Bohol’s top post. What makes him special and essential is that he has an unbeatable legal background, being the most-sought-after lawyer in the province, he has the experience, he has an almost infinite political resources, but most of all, he has the heart to serve with clear direction and specific goals. If we are going to list down the qualifications and credentials of Atty. Lim that should merit him a seat at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, we are afraid we would run out of printable space in this issue. But just the same, and truth be told, this man has been groomed by the political heavyweights of the province as the next PCL-Bohol President. In retrospect, Atty. Lim does not need any further introduction. However, we feel that we need to reiterate the fact that aside from himself being loaded with weapons of mass destruction (WMD), Aleckoy is teeming with a fertile promise of hopes for the good future of PCL-Bohol. And we are certain that Gov. Edgar Chatto, Vice-Gov. Concepcion Lim, Rep. Relampagos, Rep. Aris Aumentado and Rep. Art Yap have seen that gentle promise of hope tacked in the soft heart of incoming Tagbilaran City Councilor Atty. Aleckoy Lim, the hope for a rather forlorn PCL-Bohol.
