From May 13 elections in San Isidro town
Thirteen days or yesterday, a retired police major, was killed in San Isidro town, causing panic to an early morning crowd in an otherwise sleepy municipality. In a spot report obtained from the office of Police Supt. Constantino Paul Barot, Jr, provincial police director, the victim was identified as one Victor Majomot y Apolinaria, a retired police major,65, and a resident of barangay Masonoy in San Isidro town. The barangay is about two kilometers from the Poblacion. Another retired police major, Gerry Libaton, broke the news to the Post yesterday morning just two hour after the gruesome killing. In an interview, Libaton said that he knew the victim adding the they both retired in the police corps in year 2009. He cited at least two angles behind the killing of his friend.
The police officer did not discount the possibility of politics as behind the murder while at the same time he also theorized that it could be related to a previous killing in his barangay in 2009 alledgedly due to a land dispute. In that 2009 incident, the victim was suspected to be the mastermind although until his death yesterday morning, the killing remained unsolved. The same murder in 2009 was confirmed by Mayor Jacinto Naraga yesterday afternoon when his reaction was sought about the slaying. Although he refused to comment if it was politically-motivated, Mayor Naraga confirmed the killings in barangay Masonoy since 2009, then in 2010 and every year thereafter until 2012. All these killings were still unsolved to this day, according to Mayor Naraga. Asked if it was a case of post-election violence, Mayor Naraga, in the same interview, confirmed that the victim campaigned heavily in the last elections on the bid of vice mayoralty candidate Doxio Asoy. The young Asoy who was the former SK president of the province won his bid for the election of San Isidro vice mayoralty.
In the same interview, Mayor Naraga also confirmed that the victim campaigned against his rival for the mayoralty. Naraga won reelection. The victim was gunned down early yesterday morning while sitting at a bench inside the block tienda owned by one Marissa Navarette at the San Isidro Public Market. A man wearing a helmet and a sky blue jacket came from behind and shot the victim at the back of his head. Police investigators found at least seven empty shells of 45 cal pistol. The suspect passed thru the door near the multi-purpose gym as his entrance in killing the retired police officer. The victim was rushed to a hospital in this city but was pronounced dead on arrival. Investigators are still looking into the political and land conflict angles as of press time last night.
