It’s a statistical tie, thus insisted the Holy Name University Research Center in its presentation yesterday of the second Bohol Poll 2013. The clarification was made Friday by Ma. Paz Espiritu, coordinator of the HNU Research Center in a bid to dispel doubts regarding the outcome of the latest Bohol Poll 2013 survey result where mayoralty candidate Agustinus “Dodong” Gonzaga polled 37 percentage points against his close rival who registered 28 percentage points. Espiritu explained that the dead heat between Gonzaga and Yap was the result of the determinant factor of +-10 margin of error, thus, resulting in a statistical tie between Yap and Gonzaga. As explained by the plus (+) minus (-) margin of error is 10% involved 100 respondents. By deducting 10% from Gonzaga’s 47% and a plus (+) in Yap’s 28% means an even survey result of 37 to 38% to each of these two candidates. Dr. Abe Lim’s plus (+) 10% of his 16% survey result would give him 26% of the votes if the elections were held last Friday. Reacting to the latest survey result, the Yap camp said understandably, the leading candidates would claim victory at this point in time, but several factors will still greatly intervene until elections tomorrow. As both candidates brace for the day of reckoning Monday, all three mayoralty candidates are making last ditch pitches to win the hearts and minds of the city electorate.
