DRUGS – CAUSING HAVOC TO HUMAN LIFE

In the United States today, more than 7,000,000 children have been labelled and identified ADD/ADHD children provided with special education and psychological services. These children are prescribed with mind-altering drugs such as sedatives or antidepressants. Children are dying, as the use of psychiatric drugs rise, not only in shootings, but in the rising incidents of suicide. A study in 1996, found that antidepressant is a significant cause of suicide. The “Suicide & Psychotropic Drugs Study” in France, established that suicide attempts are more frequent among patients taking antidepressants. This maybe is the real cause of school violence. Should the government call for the banning and regulating the use of these mind altering drugs?

In New Delhi, India, uncontrolled and unregulated clinical trials of new drugs were causing “havoc” in the country. Drug trials are an essential step for pharmaceutical companies in order to win regulatory approval to bring new drugs to market. However, deaths and health problems are caused by clinical trials carried out on Indians, often without their knowledge or consent. Judge Lodha who stated that Indians are being used like “guinea pigs”, ordered the health secretary to monitor all new applications for trials from pharmaceutical companies. Low costs, weak laws and inadequate enforcement and penalties have made India an attractive destination for the tests.

Tidbits:

The World Health Organization has warned the world is heading for a “post-antibiotic era” unless action is taken. Experts say, antibiotic resistance is growing, one of the greatest threats to modern health.

Antibiotics have been one of the greatest success stories in medicine. But many antibiotics were being used unnecessarily for mild infections, helping to create resistance.

Prof Dame Sally Davies said, “Bacteria are adapting and finding ways to survive the effects of antibiotics, ultimately becoming resistant so they no longer work.”Many common infections will no longer have a cure.

Prof. Davies said, “We have to be aware that we aren’t going to have new wonder drugs coming along because there just aren’t any.”

It is a global problem that needs much more attention.
