Vote buying as par for the course in Bohol elections

Let’s stop fooling ourselves that this coming elections notably in the local level is devoid of vote buying. Anybody who thinks that money will not change hands—between voter and candidate, must be an “unidentified flying object” fresh from outer space. We say it before and we say it again that what’s new this time is that the buying price is becoming higher because voters allow vote buying as par for the course. Let’s face it, money is flowing like water come election time.

What to do with much, much, money coming the voters’ way?

Think of turning away this manna from heaven? Are you crazy?

For all you know, any candidate who dispenses money as if it will be demonetized the following day, is buying your vote because he or she has something sinister once elected into office. No way that any candidate who buys his way to victory will not try to recover the “investment” by way of corruption in office. Really, there’s no hope for this country if we sell our votes. But where there’s no seller, there’s no buyer. It takes two to tango. But whether we like it or not, vote buying/ selling has since been a way of life every election day in Bohol particularly.

Why are we talking as if there’s no hope in this benighted country?

Look around you. Isn’t it obvious that this country is going to the dogs. Speaking of moral ascendancy, we don’t think we still have that time honored trait.

Since we allow ourselves to be bought for 30 pieces of silver in any political exercise what do you expect from the kind of leaders seeking our vote for public service?

All told, if vote buying is the name of the game, then, we deserve the kind of leaders we elect as honorable men and women seeking public office.
