For all her self-styled swagger lady mayor, Che Toribio de los Reyes of Carmen has found her match in Board Member Godofreda Tirol. The lady from Candijay took to task Mayor Che after an encounter in the office of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan where the later created a scene. Thus started a shooting war of words between the two outspoken ladies. The spectacle happened last Tuesday when BM Tirol informed residents of Villarcayo, Carmen how their mayor “misbehaved” during a meeting with SP members when summoned and asked to explain about the “dwindling” income of the Chocolate Hills. According to Tirol, SP Committee chair for tourism, Mayor Che heatedly tapped her upper right arm and said, “Ako ba, mayor ko sa Carmen. Ikaw ang chairman sa tourism no?” to which Tirol answered that she was. “Sus, kung nag high heels pa ko, natumba unta ko kay kusog man kaayo iyang pagtapik sa akong braso.”

Tirol said that the mayor then added that “akong ipaguba nang building sa Chocolate Hills.” “Nasuko man gud na siya nako.” Tirol explained, “kay ako man siyang giingnan nga dili niya mahimong hilabtan ang Chocolate Hills kay gipanag-iya na sa probinsya ug sa tibuok Pilipinas ug naapil sad na sa World’s Most Famous Mountains.” The Carmen mayor allegedly overreacted and acted impolitely, repeatedly rammed her fist on a table, and in a very loud voice repeatedly said, “Ngano lagi ang Danao naa ma’y zipline? Ako’y magbuot kay ako’y mayor!” Tirol said that the mayor even went inside the office of Vice-Gov. Concepcion Lim and in a very loud voice repeatedly uttered the same words. As the fiery exchanges dragged on, Board Member Abel Damalerio prodded her not to answer back to prevent the situation from growing worst. Viilarcayo residents apparently were so enthralled with Tirol’s account for almost everyone wanted to be the first to volunteer the information: “‘Chekilet’ Hills naman ang tawag namo sa Chocolate Hills Ma’am; kinuha sa ngalan ni Mayor Che, iyang kapuyo nga si Kiko ug kaluha sa mayor nga si Lilet. Kay sumaa, sila nama’y nagbuot diha. Nagtuo mana sila nga sila guy tag-iya ana hasta sa Carmen.”

Tirol also showed to Carmenanons a set of public documents signed by Mayor Che showing the “deficit” from the Chocolate Hills operations and compared it with that of Loboc’s River Cruise. “Angay unta nga dili maglagyo ang kita sa duha ka lungsod (Carmen and Loboc) kay nahibaw naman ang katawhang Bol-anon nga nasud ang duruha sa naandang ruta nga gisubay sa nabantog na kaayo nga countryside tour; unya gipatas-an pa jud ang inyong toll fee!” Tirol wondered loudly. She further compared Carmen with the towns of Guindulman and Dimiao in that “wa’y dakong kinitaan ug wala kaayo mailhi sa mga turista apan napalambo sa isig usa ka lokal nga pangagamhanan ug aduna pa gyuy mga maanindot nga edipisyo.” “Milyun-milyon ang kita sa Loboc tungod sa pagtaas sa mga tourist arrivals sa Bohol apan nganong deficit man ang kita sa lungsod sa Carmen?” was the million-dollar question that BM Tirol dared Mayor Che to answer. “I would like to remind Mayor Che that she does not own the Chocolate Hills!” “Dili gyud mi mosugot nga makalingkod pa na sila’g balik dinhi kay grabe na kaayo ilang gibuhat sa Carmen,” several residents categorically told the Board Member.

WHAT’S IN A NAME

BM Tirol continued in the vernacular: “Magsige ma’g ingon si Mayor Che nga dili kuno ko angay nga modala sa apelyido nga Tirol. Busa ako siyang gihagit nga magpakitaa’y mi’g marriage contract. Ako tinuoray nga gikasal sa akong bana. Pero siya dili kasal kang Kiko mao nga siya’y dili angay modala sa apelyido nga de los Reyes kay Ordonez na iyang bana. Mao sad na’y apelyido nga gidala sa iyang mga anak – Ordonez.”

DRUG TESTING

“Nanaway pud siya sa akong mga anak. Ang akong mga anak puro college graduate uy ug maayo ang pagkabutang pero iyang anak mga tiggamitan og drugas, gipa-rehab,” Tirol smilingly added with sarcasm. “Usa ta manaway, atong siguruon nga limpyo ang atong tugkaran. Busa akong gihagit ang anak ni Mayor Che nga buot magpapili nga pagka-bokal nga mosumiter sa iyang kaugalingon sa usa ka drug test. Hasta ang mayor sa Carmen, nga magpa-drug test ta. Kay kaming mga bokal magpa-drug test mi karong Abril 8,” BM Freda Tirol challenged Mayor Che her son. “Mayor Che started it; I will finish it!” said Tirol. (jlvEdcom)
