Zambales Congresswoman Mitos Magsaysay has batted for a need of an ongoing voters education relative to the conduct of elections. Magsaysay, who described herself as “Congresswoman Libre” for her efforts in various fields such as social services for free in her district, was among the candidates for senate seats under the umbrella of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) which staged several campaign sorties in the towns. Led by Vice-President Jejomar Binay, the opposition UNA arrived here with the party’s slate for senators following a side strip in Tubigon port from Cebu City early morning Wednesday. They were welcomed by supporters led by gubernatorial bet Carmen Mayor Che de los Reyes and her running-mate Dr. Sharlene Coral-Lim. UNA made a stopover and pocket rallies in the towns of Tubigon and Calape, where he was met by then Vice-Gov. Julius Caesar Herrera, a candidate for mayor. The UNA bets then held rallies in Loon and Balilihan towns. The Bohol itinerary was capped with a big rally in this city Wednesday afternoon.
Vice President Binay was accompanied by Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile but then President Erap and his son JV Ejercito, also a senate bet, were no-show. Binay joined by his daughter Nancy, another senatorial aspirant, along with Tingting Cojuangco, Jack Enrile , former senators Dick Gordon, Ernesto Maceda, Migs Zubiri, the lady Magsaysay and Gringo Honasan. Magsaysay recognized that election is an “integral part” of the life of every Filipino. She said that voter’s education could be legislated and therefore could be incorporated in the curricula in schools. Magsaysay in her short speech at the City Square rally took a swipe of present Malacañang tenant for blaming the past administration referring to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for its failures and promises in the so-called “daang matuwid.” She said that how can the P-Noy administration put the blame when it was during the time of then and the late Rep. Erico B. Aumentado who was instrumental in the paved circumferential road around the province. It was Aumentado’s administration that helped put Bohol in the tourism map of the country and the world, she said. On the lapses on the recent mock elections using the Precinct Count Optical Scanner (PCOS) machines, Magsaysay said that Comelec should address those failures after the machines were put to test. Magsaysay said she stayed overnight here to spend the Valentines Day with her husband and their son who accompanied them in her campaign sorties in the province. (RVO)
