Guv suffers bad fall in Panglao, recovers in Cebu due to leg injury

Before the sharp tongues of his sworn enemies start weaving tall tales, the Capitol media apparatus swung into action Friday to dispel any rumor about his physical condition as a result of a bad fall on New Year’s day in a high-end resort in Panglao. Although suffering from a leg injury due to the freak accident, the same report said that Gov. Edgar M. Chatto is fast recovering from the slip. His right leg was reportedly injured as a result of the bad fall in one of the rooms of Bellevue Resort Hotel in Panglao Island. The Chatto family checked in at the resort to celebrate the New Year. While on vacation Chatto even had a fruitful meeting with the ABS-CBN family led by Gina and Gabby Lopez at the same resort. He, together with wife Pureza and daughter Trisha, later joined his mother Victoria and brother Efren’s family in welcoming the New Year after the Holy Mass a few hours before the incident. After the accident, the governor was rushed to HNU Hospital in Tagbilaran until he was persuaded by close friends, including Bishop Leo Medroso and Vice-Gov. Concepcion Lim, to transfer to a Cebu hospital. In a phone message from his Cebu hospital room during the weekly Friday radio program “Kita u ang Gobernador”, Chatto announced the major thrusts of the provincial government for 2013.

Even the injury did not stop the workaholic governor in making sure the Boholanos are well-briefed on the development thrusts of the province. Before he left Bohol for Cebu, he designated Vice-Gov. Lim as OIC-Gov. and directed Provincial Administrator Alfonso R. Damalerio II to coordinate with the former in his absence, especially in giving full honors and tribute to the late Cong. Erico B. Aumentado. Necrological rites were duly accorded to the former governor and late representative of the second district Friday afternoon at the Bohol Cultural Center. A vigil, a holy mass and honoring service were offered by the Provincial Government Family Saturday morning at the second floor of the Executive Building of the Provincial Capitol, right before the late congressman was laid to his eternal rest at Victoria Memorial Park in Taloto District in Tagbilaran. Cong. Aumentado was earlier reported to have succumbed to bouts of pneumonia last December 25. He was 72.

Guv leg surgery at Chong Hua tom'row

Gov. Edgar Chatto will undergo a leg surgery at the Chong Hua Hospital tomorrow after he figured in a freak accident last New Year's Day inside one of the rooms at Bellevue Resort in Panglao. He suffered a fracture in his knee which doctors said is a distal femur with intercondular extension and comminuted. The scheduled surgery at 9 tomorrow morning will be using stainless steel made in Germany which is better than the titanium plates. Doctors said the surgery is minimally invasive planting. His recovery is fast since there will be no plaster cast to be applied", the medical bulletin said, while the governor can be discharged from the hospital within this week. After surgery, he can start walking with partial weight bearing using a walker, thus he will be holding office at the ground floor of the Governor's Mansion when he comes home later this week. During a phone interview with the Post yesterday afternoon, Gov. Chatto said "it is so sad that some prophets of doom can think ill of other people instead of exercising the role of good Samaritan." He deplored some people who deliberately spread wrong information to mislead the public to the extent of announcing that the governor will take a long leave of absence as he will be flown to the United States for the surgery.
