The old Tagbilaran airport is now a picture of a modern one with its terminal undergoing a renovation to the tune of P34 million. With the hefty amount being poured into the landing facility, questions were raised whatever happens to the plan to construct an airport of international standards in Panglao. It appears that there was no qualms if the old airport will enjoy renovation until such time that a new airport is set in motion somewhere in Panglao. Plane passengers taking the city airport were complaining with the facility’s congestion after the volume of passenger traffic increases in the Tagbilaran-Manila-Tagbilaran route involving at least three airline companies. At its peak, the city airport handles at least eight direct flights from Manila daily. As to the planned airport in Panglao, the update is that it will be constructed under the PPP concept until Pres. P-noy’s term ends in 2016.
Meanwhile, the new renovated terminal is scheduled for turn-over from the contractor Verzontal Builders based in Albay to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP)with in this week. The funds used in the renovation came from the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) .Verzontal Builders is also the contractor of the Pagadian City Airport in Zamboanga del Sur, Legaspi City in Albay and Bulan, Sorsogon and many others. The second floor of the building houses the ticketing office, souvenir shop and the office of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines while at the ground floor is the check in and departure area. |
