State-of-the-art school to rise in Loboc

Trying to package Loboc as another cradle of learning in this part of Bohol, there’s no stopping Mayor Leon Calipusan from making new innovations in the municipality as a legacy to his incumbency as three-term mayor. It was to the credit of the innovative mayor that Loboc created its own niche in the tourism market by highlighting the potentials of the fabled Loboc river. With Loboc cashing in on its own strength in the tourism business through the operations of floating restaurants, Mayor Calipusan is eyeing another concern, this time, giving premium to quality education. This explains why a multimillion pesos state-of-the-art school building is rising soon in b arangay Gotozon, this municipality, to cater to the needs of free college education to talented and deserving youths in the province of Bohol.

In an interview, Mayor Calipusan disclosed that the construction of the 10-room learning edifice within a four-hectare vacant lot started last April and to be completed early October this year. Calipusan, himself a self-made man, added that the project was first conceptualized to help enhance the talents and potentials of his constituencies in Loboc which are internationally known for their adroitness in music. More than 180 students, mostly members of the Youth Ambassador Band and Loboc Childrens Choir are now enrolled in different colleges in Bohol availing the local scholarship program. However, Calipusan realized that free education as a tool of molding morally- oriented leaders should not only be confined to musicians and to Lobocanons, but to every deserving Boholano youth endowed with leadership potentials, the soon to be advocates of good governance. It is expected that free college education program will be made operational come June is school year 2013-2014.
