The matriarch of the Lakas Loob Publishers, publisher of the fast rising weekly, the Bohol Sunday Post, lost past midnight Monday, a running battle with the dreaded ailment identified as cancer of the ovary. Mrs. Neria Andoy Guingguing, wife of the Post publisher, succumbed to the debilitating disease which she nursed for 16 months, despite frantic attempts of her attending physicians to revive her while fighting for dear life at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Holy Name University Medical Foundation, Inc., in this city. The deceased who is survived by her husband, two sons Dennis and Jovy, Giscard and Richelle and grandchildren Samantha, Choy, Kew and Bebong is the barangay captain of Montaña, Baclayon.
She won hands down during the barangay elections in October 2010 although she was still recuperating from a hospital confinement brought about by an emergency operation of acute appendicitis. It was during that fateful operation that it was discovered that she had cancer of the ovary. Before becoming the first lady barangay captain of the famous barangay, the Post matriarch was elected number one barangay councillor. She went on to become the top barangay banana in the 2010 elections. She succeeded her brother-in-law Sen Guingguing, who was barangay chair for four terms. The remains of the late Mrs. Guingguing now lie in state at the Guingguing hilltop residence in barangay Montaña. Interment will be held tomorrow at 2:00 pm after a requiem mass at the Baclayon Immaculate Conception Church. She will be interred at the Guingguing-Andoy Mausoleum at the Baclayon Catholic Cemetery.
