Bohol ‘s way of expressing relief that it was spared from the fury of Tropical Depression “Sendong” last came in the form of concerted relief operations that cut across the cross section of the community. Bohol’s two radio stations—DYTR and DYRD blazed the trail by launching their own campaign by soliciting either in cash or in kind donations. The Diocese of Tagbilaran through its parishes under its jurisdiction also allow its facilities to be used as dropping centers of donations. The provincial government through the Sangguniang Panlalawigan has approved P 1 million to help devastated families in Cagayan de Oro, Iligan, and Dumaguete cities to alleviate their suffering from the impact of the devastation. The city government has allotted P1 million for Iligan City alone, this being its sister city. A breakdown of the city’s donation showed that the amount of P500,000 was sent to Cagayan de Oro while P300,000 was shared to neighboring Dumaguete City.
Dumaguete City, in terms of casualties and infrastructure damage, absorbed lesser devastation compared to the two Mindanao cities. In Jagna, two media institutions and a foundation also made its presence felt in the fund raising department, to give its share to the grief-stricken population of Cagayan de Oro and Iligan cities. Sharlen Lim, Dunkin Donuts and Philippine Christian Bookstore, Inc, launches an “Operation Tabang Cagayan de Oro-Iligan City” to help the victims of Typhoon Sendong. Saying that Cagayan de Oro, which reported 957 dead, and nearby ILigan City, which lost almost 20,000 residents with 100,000 individuals while over 400 are still missing.
