Balikbayan rules Bohol Timex 226 triathlon 2011

 

ANDA.– Arland Macasieb, a balikbayan from New Jersey, USA, dominated in the overall-male in the recently-concluded Timex 226 triathlon held here clocking 10:16:56 as announced during the awarding ceremonies at the town’s plaza witnessed by Mayor Angelina Simacio and Rep. Arthur Yap (3rd dist) and sports enthusiasts and local spectators as well.  August Benedicto of PMI team secured the second in overall, clocking 10:27:29 and Franklin Penalosa of Timex team with 10:36:56. In overall female, Laarni de Guzman of Timex team clinched the 14:19:13 time to win the event along with team-mate Janice Tanada at second place with 14:33:32 and Ting Joson of team BikeKing at 3 rd with 15:39:33. Some 62 participants of different teams splashed into the 3.8 kms. swim in early morning of Dec. 3 then to 42-km run and the grueling 180-km bike. The swim took place along the clear water off this town’s public white beach and the run from here to nearby Guindulman town, four times, and finally the bike from here to Jagna town six times. Jagna town is about 32 kms. from this cape town.

Guy Concepcion clocked 1:02:20 to win the male splitts swim aged 40-44 while Benedicto garnered the twin feats – male splits (25-29 years) for bike, clocking 5:14:01 and for run with 3:44:00 time. On female splitts, Joson garnered the swim with the time of 1:31:46 while Tanada clocked 6:07:20 for the bike and de Guzman with 5:41:52 for the run. Edgar Villar of Tagum, Davao del Norte, the oldest among the triathletes at 61, finished 3 rd with 14:41:17 in men’s 50 years and above category. He said in an interview that he was also in several events like this before but his forte is mountain biking. Under the category, Alvin Alindogan of David Salon team grabbed the lead with 11:27:01 while Ed Francisco of team BikeKing at 2 nd with 13:52:13 record. Other winners were Ferdinand Sogoc settled at first with 11:13:53 under the Male-40-44 while Glenn Gonzalez of Sports Spray (11:42:10) and Gregory Maranon (12:19:45) at 2 nd and 3 rd, respectively. Under the male 45-49, Joevic Pajarillo of Save Laguna Lake clocked 11:34:52 along with Adolfo Minoza of team CDO, 2 nd, with 12:16:10 and Raul Alvarez of Heritage Park, 3 rd, with 14:20:27. (RVO)
