Sportsman ABAP Region 7 president Nemi Monton questioned the organizers of the recently organized “Governor’s Cup” Sandugo 2011 Boxing Exhibition. The boxing event was initiated by the Provincial Government of Bohol and HARADA Sports Promotion. This was held at the Jagna Gymnasium in Jagna town last last August 6. with six professional and seven other amateur boxing bouts identified within the province of Bohol and Mindanao.

Unsanctioned

The office of the ABAP received an information that the event held seven amateur bouts as under-card to the professional. This was confirmed when Jose Ruben H. Racho, the provincial sports coordinator-designate talked to Monton. Racho reasoned out that the amateur bouts were not a competition but just an exhibition. The same reason was raised by Abelon Damalerio, brother of Provincial Administrator Ae Damalerio on radio last Wednesday. It was remembered that Monton lamented the incident that happened to one of the professional and former amateur boxers Roel Peligro who was rushed to the hospital here in the city who accordingly collapsed after his match. Also, he questioned the promotions management for allowing an amateur fight without the ABAP knowledge and clearance. Under the rules, all amateur boxing events whether exhibition or competitions should be sanctioned by the ABAP and organizers should secure official written authority.
