A slight increase in enrollment is noted as Bohol schools swing open its doors when “back-to-school time goes in full swing tomorrow. This means that the 159,000 enrollees last year, an increase of 2% or 161,000 will flock to their respective schools tomorrow as public and private elementary and secondary schools open for classes. According to Division of Bohol Supt. Dr Lorna Rances that last school year, the enrollees both from elementary and secondary reached to more than 159,000 but now she expects it will hit past 161,000. She said the same problem will be encountered this coming school year like classroom, teacher and text book shortages.
She admitted that even the Dep-Ed allocated a big amount for the construction of classrooms but the lack of it is still the same old, familiar problem hounding the students. She said even that it was still a common sight in many places in Bohol that classes are being held in barangay stages, barangay health centers and other makeshift structures. Meanwhile, here in Tagbilaran City, the enrollees last school year reached to 17,031 with 10,433 of which were elementary pupils. The secondary population was 6,598. According to Ruel Namocatcat, city Dep-Ed administrative V, the city also encountered problems the same way as the division of Bohol. The Tagbilaran City Central Elementary School is facing lack of classroom problem because of the students coming outside the city. Namocatcat clarified that what attracted pupils from outside the city to enroll here is the program of City Mayor Dan Neri Lim to give free school supplies. |
