TUBIGON.-The Local Government Unit of this town has launched a project called the “ Rice Subsidy Program through Cash for Training/Work” on May 30, 2011. The project was held during a four- day seminar at the Tubigon Cultural Center to 697 fisher folks and farmers. The program was aimed to augment the family income of small-scale farmers and fisher folks during lean months when they cannot go to the farm and plant and to the sea and catch fish due to bad weather condition. Lean months for farmers and fisher folks are July, August, and September. The participants were given cash assistance of P 267.00 per person per day for a total of P 2,937.00 after their attendance in the activity which consisted of four-day training and seven-day work/community service to their respective barangays such as costal clean up and tree planting.
The 1 st part of the program proved to be a success since the participants learned a lot from the different movie slides and lecture on climate change, rice propagation and other topics related to the nature of their work. The following day starting on June 6, the different beneficiaries will render their community service to their respective barangays for the work part of the project. The barangay chairman where the beneficiaries belong will coordinate the attendance. The project was implemented by the Philippine government in partnership with the Local Government Units (LGUs) through local offices, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWD) and the Municipal Agriculture Office(MAO) headed by Ms. Victoria Simbajon and Ms. Yolanda Labella, respectively.
