PNoy allocates P100M for 2 nd district towns waterworks

TEN “waterless” towns in Bohol's 2 nd District stand to get waterworks systems with a P100 million allocation from the Aquino administration. Rep. Erico Aumentado said the beneficiary towns are President Garcia, Ubay, Bien Unido, San Miguel, Talibon, Getafe, Buenavista, Inabanga, San Isidro and Trinidad which he had recommended for waterworks funding under the Provincewide Investment for Public Health (PIPH) program launched jointly by the DOH and the provincial government during his watch as governor. He said the allocation then was only P6 million each. However, Health Sec. Enrique Ona allocated P10M for each project with a 10% counterpart required from each beneficiary town. The solon had told Ona that nine out of 10 towns are ready with their counterparts after he put up P500,000 for each.

The Aumentado allocation closes the gap for these towns to ensure meeting their counterpart requirement. These towns could not have inserted the amount in their respective budgets, these being approved already late last year. The solon is still working out with Trinidad, the 10 th local government unit recommended in the PIPH. For that purpose, he has written Mayor Roberto Cajes of his offer to put up P500,000 for the town's equity contribution. Aumentado informed Ona that his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) allocation has been prioritizing health, waterworks, energization, education and livelihood services, strategic tourism and support infrastructure

He assured the secretary that his counterpart fund for these towns' waterworks is only initial, and that he is prepared to further support the projects – especially their future expansion. In another development, Aumentary formalized his request for the realignment of P800,000 out of the P1 million allocated for the Biabas, Ubay birthing center to barangay Sentinela also in Ubay because the Biabas project was basically completed last year. The remaining P200,000 shall be used for the floor tiling and other improvements on the Biabas facility. He said Ubay Mayor Eutiquio Bernales joined him in selecting Sentinela because it is strategically located to serve also the barangays of Tapal, San Isidro and the highly populated island of Tres Reyes nearby.
