Tubigon in feverish mode of Tanda festival this year

EWith the hustle and bustle slowly showing in Tubigon, the town is on the thick orchestrated efforts in gearing towards a grand production of the annual town fiesta celebration aptly dubbed “Tanda Festival 2011”.

Several meetings and caucuses were already held by the executive committee and the sub-committees aimed at only one goal: make this year's town fiesta more colorful, meaningful and vibrant.

Tanda is a Visayan term for “a short visit” to a deeply missed family, relatives, friends, place of origin, o f fond memories and so on. What started as a homecoming for different Tubigons around the globe has been renamed as a festival of reunion, thanksgiving and praise for the blessings and graces granted thru the intercession of Tubigon's patron saint, Sr. San Isidro Labrador.

The theme for this edition of Tanda Festival would dwell on the strings of multi-cultural influences and influx that has existed and interwoven making a unique singular tapestry and has shaped Tubigon as one community for hundreds of years.

Extensive preparations and plans are done not only by the townsfolk but the LGU officials and employees as well since they take charge in producing this annual cultural event. A series of meetings would still be done in the following days to come to discuss other pertinent matters such as the theme and to track the progress each of the sub-committee had been making in the past weeks.

As an overview, Tanda Festival highlights three major events namely; Bulong-Imang Streetdancing and Showdown, Anyag sa Tubigon Beauty Pageant, and Agro-Technological Fair. Bulong-Imang, derived from the rhythmic sound pattern of the drums and gong used in dancing, is a dance of praise and thanksgiving to Sr. San Isidro Labrador. The Anyag sa Tubigon, conceptualized 4 years ago, features the beauty and wit of Tubigon's pride ladies in a beauty pageant. And lastly, the Agro-Technological Fair is a display and exhibit of the bountiful harvest of the mountains, farmlands, and the shores of Tubigon set against the backdrop of trading and commerce.

This year's Fiesta Executive Committee is headed by the municipal mayor himself, Engr. William R. Jao who stands as the Executive Chairman. The rest of the fiesta committee is comprised of the following: Rev. Fr. Marlon Lumanas, co-chairman and chair of religious and church activities, Vice Mayor Virgilio Fortich, vice chairman; Dennis Walton Balbero, over-all artistic director; first lady Eden Jao, Anyag sa Tubigon Comm.; Ms. Gertrude Abarquez, Bulong-Imang Streetdancing; Ms. Yolanda Labella, agro-tech fair; Ms. Servanda Salomon, finance; Noel C.
