JAGNA - The landslide reported to the Municipal Engineering Office in the early office hours of January 27 prompted Engr. Josefina Rañoa to organize a response team to go to the reported area at Purok 7, Sitio Mang-og, Tubod Monte, this town. The Jagna Emergency Mobile Rescue Unit (JEMRU) was already in the area manually clearing the road of branches of two Janagdong trees blocking the road to give way to passing motorcycles coming from Mayana. Heavy rains for almost a week loosened a portion of a steep mountain slope causing two trees to be uprooted and fell towards the national road blocking motorists. A jeep carrying a municipal employee going to work narrowly escaped the fallen trees and landslide. No one was hurt. Clean up by a joint team of the JEMRU and Municipal Engineering Office workers was finished at around 9:00 that morning allowing four-wheeled vehicles to pass the road. At around 1:00 in the afternoon half of the road at Sitio Mang-og was covered with dirt again as the loose soil is continuously cascading coming from the steep mountain slope.
Landslide season is underway. Another reported landslide on the same day happened in Sitio Labo, Boctol. The landslide on the side of the national road covered the canal obstructing the flow of water. It did not reach the center of the road and was not an impediment to motorists. The DPWH was quick to respond freeing the canals. It was expected that continuous rains would create more landslides especially in the critical areas prone to erosion. The LGU headed by Mayor Fortunato Abrenilla and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) already warned the residents in the risky areas to evacuate to places of safety to prevent disaster brought about by this trend.
