This piece is best understood when said in the vernacular. Why in God's sake is having money seems to be the crux of the matter? Meaning, why blame somebody who has the money to meet head-on any problem that comes his way. Say, a health problem, chief of all. It's like this. Nganong mahimong problema ug naa kay kuarta? (Since when is having money becoming a problem?)
First off. By all indications, the real problem is having no money. No money, no honey. But when having money becomes a problem, then, that's another story. They say money is the root of all evil. To this BGlante, no money is the root of all evils. But our point is: why is having money taken against the moneyed individual? This is precisely what we are driving at. We are constrained to make a thesis on the “money problem” after hearing instant retorts from some people when they happen to encounter individuals earlier reported to be afflicted with debilitating ailments—the kind that borders on the deadly. Guess what these people are saying the moment they see a sickly looking person but still up and about and still in the thick of the fight for survival? Oh! yes, he looks okay but if not of his money, he's long dead, was the usual comment calculated to be heard by anybody who cares to listen to his sarcastic reaction.
This is where the problem lies. Hearing this remark, what comes to mind is that the person making the loaded comment was not motivated by the concern for the sick for him to get well soon. In a way, instead of comforting the afflicted, he only showed how insensitive he is to the plight of those suffering from disease. At any rate, anybody who show indifference to people in the throes of ailments, may realize that they too are not immune to any misfortune that may befall them sooner than they expect. Nobody is exempted from the law of diminishing returns. Sooner or later, the law of karma, the negative variety, is to be expected. Better still, if you do have the wherewithal to counter any problem. What will happen if you are poor as a rat? There goes the glory of the world.
