One-day affair

Many people do not admit it but Christmas is a paradox to them. They look forward to it when it is still a long way coming, but it feels like a heavy burden when it is in the offing. There are many who grumble that they have too many people to wrap gifts for and yet they have very little available cash with which to do it. It makes us wonder why they do it when their heart is obviously not into it. There are others who complain that they have too many Christmas parties to attend and yet proceed to attend them anyway. It makes us wonder what the complaining was all about in the first place. These and many more inconsistencies make us realize how people can be so confusing. They expressly declare that they hate doing certain things but almost always end up doing just those things. Strange, but there are people who actually wish Christmas would be scrapped once and for all.

That would be fine. It would be a good way to find out just how many people would insist to celebrate Christmas when it is no longer fashionable to do so. It will be a good time to determine just how real Christmas is to us. And yet, it also leads us to wonder if these grumblers would gladly give up all the privileges that come with Christmas. Try to think of a December where there are no bonuses, cash gifts, promos and giveaways. Since they are supposed to be in vogue in the spirit of the season, they might as well go too if we decide to do away with Christmas. You will be surprised at how many people who claim they do not believe in Christmas and what it stands for who are the first to make a beeline at the paymaster's window to collect their Christmas benefits. Does it surprise us that the reason why certain people detest Christmas is only because they have to part with some of the extra cash they get? These same people would be the lobby hard to keep Christmas if it was only a one-way thing. To people caught up in a bind, here is one piece of unsolicited advise: if you don't want to give, don't. If you give, don't complain. It's as simple as that. Don't give and complain. When you do so, you lost twice. You lost what you gave up, and you lost the joy that comes with giving. To those who find joy in giving, Christmas is only one more excuse to do so. To those who find it hard to give, even Christmas cannot make them do it. If we really look at it, Christmas has never been a one-day affair.
