Before you consider this frightening scenario robs the better part of your sanity, let it be clear from the start that this piece is not dedicated to put in a bad light our favourite vice governor, Conching Lim. Nay, it is designed to put her in the pedestal of big-time power brokers. In fact, looking into its implications, it can be a plus factor for the feisty vice governor. Depending, however, which part of the fence one is sitting. In our case, as an objective observer, we cannot help but admire the tenacity of the vice governor to make things done-- in her own terms, that is. Of late, the Valencia lawmaker was in the news after she ran roughshod over her mentor. Or what is the other way around?
Whatever, it is safe to assume that as vice governor of Gov. Edgar Chatto, she is slowly morphing into somebody in the halls of Capitol “who has her cake and eat it, too”. Is she enjoying her new found role? By all intents and purposes, she did. In fact, how long will she exercise that power over Chatto, is too early to tell. One thing sure, she enjoyed the trappings of power, that watching her in the sidelines is worth contemplating that the role fits her to a T. But the big question is this. After making her as vice governor did it come to Chatto's mind that she created a monster out of Conching Lim? Our hunch is that it was a two-way configuration. Sort of, you- scratch-my-back-I'll-scratch-yours.
To Chatto, for as long as Lim will continue to be kept in a tight leash, she will relish the role of poster girl of bad behaviour—to her critics. Trouble is, if she will bit off more than she could chew or she will decide to push her luck too far to the scorn and consternation of Chatto. Which to this BGlante is far from Conching's agenda. Our contemplation is that for as long as she enjoys the trust and confidence of Chatto, she will not push the limits of her power that will endanger her relations with Chatto. The recent results of the elections of the Sangguniang Kabataan provincial federation and the Liga ng mg Barangay bore all the hallmarks of Conching' power beyond the Capitol confines. Never mind that Chatto was sidelined in the choice of the Capitol bets because it was Conching Lim's wishes who would represent the SK and the Liga. With Lim putting one over Chatto in the choice of the two provincial federation presidents, what became apparent was her unquestionable dominance in Capitol politics.
Without his knowing it, it is as if Chatto has unofficially anointed her successor as shock absorber and trouble shooter all at the same time. Did you hear any squeak from Chatto that he was bypassed in the selection process? If none, then, the governor must be laughing in the inside that he was spared of any fallout in the choice of SK and Liga presidents. The fact that we hear none was enough indication that she was given the imprimatur that she can have her way even in tricky issues as choosing the Capitol candidates for important SP positions. Which leads us to the dreaded reality that in the history of Capitol wheeling and dealing, whatever Conching (Lim) wants, Conching gets. Get the drift?
